Lorraine McFarland
“With each piece of art I endeavor to create, I feel a true responsibility to capture a moment in time that illustrates the joy of being aware of the important gifts of our planet Earth. Each painting is an expression of gratitude to Mother Nature, my touchstone. By capturing color and light, I strive to create something that generates its own energy; something unique and evocative that will spark an emotion in the observer and teach me something too.”
Award-winning artist Lorraine McFarland works primarily in pastel and sometimes in oil. She has studied with many renowned master artists including Richard McKinley, Greg LaRock, Maggie Price, Liz Haywood-Sullivan, Alan Flattmann, Nancy King Mertz, Rita Kirkman, and more.
Lorraine describes herself as a late bloomer. Her path to artistic success was long and winding. She went to college with a declared major in art. However, when she saw what the other students could do, she gave it up, thinking she was not talented enough.
After many years, and a number of careers, she found herself back at the easel with a newfound confidence. Her work as a field biologist and her dedication to environmental conservation influenced her decision to learn to paint outdoors, on location. Since 2007 she has pursued and excelled at painting "en plein air", winning many awards and satisfying her desire to connect with Mother Nature. Her work hangs in the homes of collectors and in corporate settings throughout the United States.
Lorraine lives in Rolla, Missouri where the beautiful Missouri Ozarks inspire her work.
