Artist Statement:

The central theme of my work, 'Nodal Structure,' is the Bond Life Science building. This building, a significant place of connection, serves as the backdrop for the artwork's exploration of the intersection between art, architecture, and scientific discovery.

The work sets forth a dialog with the spontaneous organization inherent in the artwork's materials, which acts as a metaphor for the architectural space where ideas are researched and collaborated upon. The title and foundation of this work pay homage to Joseph Albers' Structural Constellations series of works, where the cubic construction interplays with the ambiguity of space and the illusionary nature of the artwork. He describes this interplay as a flux between actual facts and factual facts. From this structure, the inherent qualities of the materials further ambiguity.

The work comprises liquid copper oxide, water-soluble graphite, and India ink. The underlying structure of graphite laid on the paper appears solid. This solidity morphs as the water-soluble graphite interacts with the liquid copper oxide and ink laid on top. These solid materials (copper and graphite) become fluid, and spontaneous organization takes over to create the work. These solid forms of structure and material create unexpected connections and possibilities extending to the Bond Life Science Center, the researchers, and its work.
