CAL Members’ Summer Show: Eclipsed

Opening Reception: Friday, 30th June, 6-8pm
Art Work Submission Dates: Friday 23rd or Saturday 24th June

Whenever we want to watch an eclipse of the Sun we set out basins filled with oil or pitch, because the heavy liquid is not easily disturbed and so preserves the images it receives.
— Seneca

At 1:12pm on August 21st 2017, Columbia will be plunged into 2 minutes and 37 seconds of total darkness as a solar eclipse passes overhead. The last time a total eclipse was visible in what would become Columbia was 1442, so, it seems fitting that our CAL Members’ Summer show should be an artistic paean to this phenomenon.

In the CAL Members Summer Show: Eclipsed artists are invited to explore shadow and light, sun and moon, from dappled to darkness and from bosky to bright. How do light and dark color our world? What is revealed and what is obscured by light and shadows cast by objects, seen or unseen, real or imagined.

Information for submitting artists:

There is a suggested theme for this unjuried show, which is only open to current CAL members. Artists are invited to submit one 2D or 3D work. Artwork should be submitted on Friday 23rd or Saturday 24th June, 11am-5pm both days. Artwork in all mediums is welcome. Please note that all artwork must be for sale, be no larger than 48" in any one direction and have been completed in the last two years. All paintings must be completely dry and all work must be WIRED – we cannot hang work that does not have a wire - and labeled on the back with the artist's name. Artist entry fee is $10. Although unjuried, cash awards will still be given for work in the show. Due to space limitations only 120 works can be accepted for this show.

The awards judge for the show is Thomas Piche, Director of The Daum Gallery in Sedalia.
