Based on the 3-part medieval poetic narrative by Dante Alighieri, this show invites artists to interpret their vision of The Paradisio, The Purgatorio, and The Inferno, or heaven, purgatory, and hell. To medieval minds, these realms were as real and tangible as the north, south, east, and west, and each man, woman, and child held sincere conviction that their respective torments or ecstasies awaited their souls upon death. Though the modern thinker may adopt a more symbolic approach, preferring to regard the realms of heaven, hell, and all that lies between as mere psychological states, the imagery they evoke is nonetheless vivid and deeply personal. Perhaps even in small moments of our mundane lives, we too peer beyond the veil, catching a fleeting glimpse of what our own heaven, hell, or life in limbo might entail.
This show is a juried show and open to all artists 16+ years old, all media welcome.
