Artist Statement:

Chiron, the centaur who gained knowledge by searching for relief from an incurable wound has long been a symbol for the wounded healer, an image which was brought to mind while listening to your researchers talk about their interest, projects, and how the cooperative environment in the Bond Center helps them reflect and incorporate a wider view of and approach to their specific area of research. The images of cellular activity in the microscopy lab brought forth the constellations, the magic of creative interaction between the genetic structure of cell mimicking the patterns of the stars in the sky.

In the work the two centaur twisting in their dance alludes to the spiraling of DNA, as well as the the fractal building of research knowledge where the interactions between researchers lead to greater discoveries and greater solutions for the environment and all life; the cellular activity mimicked in the background constellations reminds one of the interconnection of the universe.
