Kelly Durante
Artist Bio:
Kelly Durante is both an experimental biologist and a lifelong artist. With a background in biology, anthropology, and psychology, and three decades working with cultured cells, it is no wonder many see scientific themes in her pieces. But for Kelly, art is an escape from science and a chance to depict fantastical landscapes and supernatural dramas, to give form to ideas, emotions, and dreams. Kelly’s works are featured in private collections throughout the world and on permanent display at Serendipity Wellness Studio, Designs X Nadine, and the Bond Life Sciences Center in Columbia, Missouri. She teaches pour painting at the Columbia Art League, and her artwork graces a 2025 Les Bourgeois wine label.
Artist Statement:
Acrylic pour is an inherently unpredictable medium. Over the years, I have developed experimental methods and techniques to gain greater control over my final compositions, bringing a paradoxical element of precision to my pours. This allows me to depict shapes, ratios, and patterns, such as those that recur in the natural world and are central to sacred geometry. While variables like temperature and humidity alter how my paint moves and responds, my process is adaptive, a dance between artist and medium, a balance between order and chaos.
