Bio:
Phil Moir is an emerging sculptor recently relocated from Denver to Columbia. His artistic practice is deeply rooted in remote, environmentally harsh landscapes—such as high mountain tree lines, sun-baked deserts, and rugged coastal shores. Working under the creative identity Studio Philama, his process begins by ethically foraging in these environments for fallen timber exclusively from dead trees, wood shaped by natural decay, stress, fire, and weathered burls.
Rather than forcing a preconceived shape onto the material, Phil works in close dialogue with the wood's natural grain, knots, voids, and intrinsic curvature, following its inherent lines to reveal fluid, kinetic, and abstract forms. Often anchored by hand-selected natural stone bases or mineral mounts, his sculptures capture a dynamic sense of transition, bridging the raw, unadorned history of the wild landscape with the curated space.
