Kelly Durante has spent a lifetime creating curious objects of art. Media have included photography, papier mâché, felting, rubber carving, art doll making, and sweater up-cycling. In recent years, she has fallen in love with acrylic pour painting and developed her distinctive “precision pour” style. With a background in biology, anthropology and psychology and three decades as an experimental biologist, it is no wonder many see physiological themes in her work. But for Durante, art is an escape from science and a chance to depict fantastical landscapes or supernatural dramas, and to give form to ideas, emotions and dreams.
