the click of a heel, a beggar’s glove, a vendor’s selling call

the aroma of bread, a warm embrace, a sudden slip and fall

a stone kicked from the road, a pine cone’s sap, a dog’s back alley feed

a laugh from a boy, the clink from a toast, in flight a winged seed

a wave from the sea, a ghost’s nightly haunt, a mansion’s door queer creak,

a saw mill’s grind, a mountain’s stretch, a stride from a hammered steed.
