On the Rocks

You’re a pebble in my shoe, I said. 

But you wear sandals, you told me. 

Yes, making me all the more

Vulnerable

and I wonder, am I also a pebble in

your shoe - sandal or not?

I have the pebbles of Demosthenes

in my mouth, I said. 

I can’t understand what you’re

saying, you told me.

So I spit them out and stop talking 

And I wonder, Will I know when it’s

time to speak?

I collect heart rocks, I said. 

I think that’s sweet, you told me. 

So I’m showing you one of my 

Hearts

And I wonder, will you want one to

keep?
