This beginner’s course in soft pastels introduces foundational techniques, including blending, layering, value assessment, and composition. Over six sessions, you will learn how to create depth, texture, and realism through underpainting and overpainting methods. You will leave with a deeper understanding of soft pastels as well as a framed piece of art.

Pastel Pencils (for detail work)
Paper:
9” x 12” UART Sanded paper pad in beige; 400 or 600 grit
Blending Tools:
Foam or blending tools
Brush and Rubbing Alcohol in a small spray bottle
Framing Supplies:
11 x 14 frame & mat with 8 x 10 opening
Additional Supplies:
Erasers
blade (for sharpening)
small tray (to hold your pastels)
Smartphone or camera (for value checks)
