Beginning Pastels with Hope Martin (6 week)- Thursdays, October 15-November 19 from 6-8pm
Thursdays 6:00-8:00pm from October 15th- November 19th
This beginner’s course in soft pastels introduces foundational techniques, including blending, layering, value assessment, and composition. Over six sessions, you will learn how to create depth, texture, and realism through underpainting and overpainting methods on sanded paper. You will leave with a deeper understanding of soft pastels as well as a framed piece of art.

Soft Pastels:
○ Suggested:
■ Prismacolor NuPastels 36 set or larger (medium hard)
■ A few softer pastels in intense/dark colors to supplement. I really like
Mount Vision: Gray violets, Dark Blue (purple) and their Thunderstorm
(blue, red or violet) colors
Pastel Pencils:
■ (Caran d’Arche or CarbOthello) small set or a few singles
(black, white, beige, brown, purple, etc) great for initial sketches and final
details.
Paper:
9” x 12” UART Sanded paper pad in beige; 400 or 600 grit
Blending Tools:
Foam or inexpensive brush (like Artist loft brand for acrylics) in a chisel shape
Additional Supplies:
Erasers
Break-away knife (for sharpening)
Small tray (to hold your pastels)
Smartphone or camera (for value checks)
