Beginner Oil Painting: Grisaille & Glazing
Thursdays, March 5th-April 9th from 6:00-8:00pm
This six week course equips oil painters of all experience levels with tips, tricks, & techniques of painting from photo reference. The curriculum focuses on translating photographic references into expressive oil paintings, covering fundamental skills, composition, and color theory. This course is designed to guide students through the entire process, from selecting the right image to applying the final brushstrokes. Each week features a live demonstration & personalized one-on-onefeedback, ensuring you build confidence and leave with a finished piece and a process you can repeat at home.
Some communal supplies will be available.
This class is taught by Kali Gibbs & held in the CAL classroom at 207 South Ninth St.

Paints
Basic oil paint set with a range colors, such as Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Yellow, and Phthalo Green
Brushes
A range of hog hair bristle brushes.
Mediums and solvents
Odorless mineral spirits (OMS) or Gamsol for cleaning and thinning the underpainting.
Refined linseed oil or an alkyd medium like Liquin, as it speeds up drying time.
Two small, lidded glass containers for solvent and medium.
Surfaces and accessories
Small to medium-sized canvas (e.g., 8"x10", 9"x11", or 11"x14").
A palette (disposable paper palettes are also an option).
Palette knife for mixing paints.
Rags or paper towels for cleaning brushes and wiping off paint.
