Figure Painting- Light, Color & the Human Form

Thursdays, August 28th to October 4th from 6:00-8:00 PM

In this six-week course, we’ll explore the fundamentals of figure painting in a supportive, process-focused environment. Designed for beginners and those with some painting experience, this class emphasizes observation, color mixing, and expressive brushwork as we paint from the live model. You’ll learn how to approach the figure through gesture, proportion, value, and color—building confidence in capturing both structure and spirit. We’ll work alla prima (wet-into-wet) with oil paint using a limited color palette, and focusing on shorter poses in the early weeks while gradually transitioning to longer studies. Whether you’re just getting started or looking to deepen your understanding of the figure, this class invites you to slow down, observe carefully, and let your painting evolve naturally.

No prior figure painting experience necessary.

This class is taught by Shannon Soldner & held in the CAL classroom at 207 South Ninth St.
