Creative Fun Days
School’s out – art’s in! Fun-filled, full day art programs at a great value on CPS scheduled days off.
New art explorations and activities in a range of media are introduced at each Creative Fun Day, making each program a unique experience for participating students. Children participate in gallery activities that encourage active looking and engagement with original works of art in the CAL gallery. Students also gain exposure to enduring ideas that have shaped art of the past and present, here and through other nearby cultural resources. Kids take art breaks throughout the day with children’s books, games and puzzles.

Experienced and talented artist-teacher Fatima Atie will guide students through the entire process of creating and illustrating original Manga/Anime characters.
Students will learn:
♦ Basic ‘Anime’ anatomy for both sexes and how to apply it to different ages, body types, different ethnicities and special features; (mostly frontal view)
♦ Different facial expressions and how to exaggerate them in order to express true emotions or intentions- as in how to make the character alive.
♦ Hands gestures and feet movements
♦ Hair texture and motion
♦ Simple body postures and the way the body parts move with the changes.
Requirements: No illustration background knowledge is required. Everyone may start from scratch. At the end of the course, students will have acquired the knowledge to create a simple Manga Character.
Advanced instruction can be offered to more advanced illustrators involving shading with colors, inking and hatching (black and white Manga), perspective and complex poses, materials and fabric within clothing, backgrounds, storytelling, etc.
♦ Sketchbook (A4 OR A5), preferably one with faded yellow pages.
♦ Pencils: HB, B1, B3, B6.
♦ Black inking pen, preferably staedtler (0.1 and 0.4) OR Unipen (0.2 and 0.4)
♦ If you have Comic books or Manga books you're willing to study more about, feel free to bring them to the class.
Grown-ups and little artists ages 3-8 create and make together with the joyful guidance of artist-teacher Shalonda Farrow. All gown-up child pairs are welcome (grandparents, parents, aunts/uncles, etc.).
